Arts And Culture
The Courthouse square is host to the annual Phippen Western Fine Art Show & Sale, with top artists - including some of the renowned Cowboy Artists - exhibiting their work each Memorial Day weekend. Other weekend events include the annual Antiques On The Square and numerous crafts shows. Through Labor Day weekend there is always something fun to do, and then there's a brief respite before the Christmas season with it's holiday parades and light show events.
Also twice a year is the Acker Music Night where downtown business stay open late and host musical groups. Prescott residents and visitors take a grand tour of the downtown scene, listening to a wide variety of music and catching up on the local happenings. Art galleries put on a tour night twice a year also, as well as monthly events and shows.
Both the Yavapai Performance Center at the college, and the Prescott Fine Arts Association have performances year around with a wide variety of offerings. There is sure to be something to please everyone. The old Elks Lodge is in the process of restoration, and already host to Dicken's Christmas Carol each season, with a different presentation each year, of course.
Then there's the Oktoberfest, and the Salsa contest held during Cinco De Mayo Festivities, a Taste of Prescott to showcase top area chefs' "specialities de la maison," the Bluegrass Festival, the Indian Art Market, the Cowboy Poets Gathering, the Shakespeare Festival, the Jazz Summit, and what else.....
Oh! mustn't forget Prescott is home to Fourth of July week's "World's Oldest Rodeo" presented at the old fair grounds. This event inspired the Steve McQueen classic "Junior Bonner." The local Palace saloon has a large painting to commemorate this event in Prescott's past.
For a complete current calendar of events go to the Prescott Chamber of Commerce.
