HIKING IN PRESCOTT

Peavine Trail

With miles and miles of wonderful hiking trails surrounding the Prescott area, and almost year 'round outdoor weather, walking enthusiasts have a lot to appreciate about access to state trust land and Prescott National Forest.

Just look at the views from the Peavine Trail as it winds through the Granite Dells area.  This trail access point is less than four miles from the downtown center square of Prescott.  You can hike all the way to the towns of Chino Valley or Prescott Valley on the Peavine Trail.

The Yavapai Trail Association has been dreaming for years about a "circle trail" that would complete connections between individual trails to encircle the city and give users access to all the lakes from upper and lower Goldwater to and Watson and Willow lakes, and presumably by Granite Basin lake to the northwest of the city.  The Forest Service recently announced plans for several projects that would be part of implementing this plan.  Private land access is included in the design, and work on several segments is under way.  In the meantime, the resurfacing and upgrades to the parking lots at the Thumb Butte parking lot, as well as the Peavine parking lot have already been completed.  So much to see, and not enough time to do it as soon as one would wish!
